Hot(?) take: Release software on Steam instead of the Windows App Store. You can use the same Windows APIs and yet it'll be cross-platform.
For example, apparently the WhatsApp desktop client (the one that allows you to make video calls from desktop) is Windows-only. If it were on Steam, I could just install it on Gentoo.
