"content": "It bothers me that so much of the debate over reparations in California hinges on the notion that California supposedly didn't do slavery. California, like every other \"non-slave-state,\" built an economy around a racialized permanent underclass, and that racialized economy not only built the state that we know today, it also continues to this day. Anyone who is disadvantaged by it deserves to be made whole, whether or not they can trace ancestry to the \"between 500 and 1500\" enslaved people who are known to have lived in CA.",
