I see a *lot* of wasted effort inventing, recording and analysing KPIs without understanding that they only measure the very narrow thing they measure. When it's "saleable quality plates", that's OK. When it's even a tiny bit more complex, it fails.
Upper management are obsessed with KPIs because it's all they have. Lower managers don't have the skills or power to push back. Workers work to the KPI only, to the detriment of all else.
