I agree with the issues but they don't come from people not wanting something better. It's just the first scheme that "worked". And the ghost feature helps to educate people about the privacy leak.
Better DMs are in the works and I don't agree with the approach where relays are the gate keepers as the relay operators still learn that meta data, which is not ok neither and it means that DMs can't be stored redundantly.
My proposal was to add fuzz to the DMs. Others came up with better approaches and I think, they even agree on what it will be but I'm out of the loop, waiting for noStrudel to implement it. ;)
