I’m no electrician or mechanic, but I’m fairly certain the power generated from the alternator is due to the spinning of the motor. The pulleys/belts spin and create the energy. So the energy is coming from the potential energy of the motor that is already spinning.
In other words, the alternator isn’t tapping into the fuel source, it’s using the energy created from something that is already spinning.
Your analogy would be like saying that the power created from a water mill needs to use extra water to create the power. Thats not the case. The water is already flowing. The mill is just capturing the potential energy.
