Really disappointed with Gender A Wider Lens's interview with Katie Herzog the other day. She says she's a 'pronoun respecter', and thinks it's at best poor tactics for women to use sex-based pronouns; 'why alienate potential allies?' She clearly hasn't thought through the 'pronouns are Rohypnol' argument, which points out that ceding sex-based pronouns to TIPs facilitates some of the worst men being considered 'safe' and vulnerable (and also withdrawing protection and safeguarding from some of the most vulnerable women). She says Buck Angel is 'a friend of hers' - I wonder if she means actual 'friend', or someone she exchanges social media messages with? Because if the former, from photos I've seen of her in real life, with no posing or filtering, in proximity to other people, she really doesn't 'pass'. Same for Blaire White - if Katie actually knows either of these people I find it hard to believe she'd be fooled about their sex. I do agree with her, though, that women calling TIMs they like, or who have invested in their gender mimicry, 'she' are at best sending the wrong message (that men can 'earn' or 'deserve' a female pronoun) and at worst are hypocrites.
