the other day, husband was telling me about a coworker's wife getting their household a new kitten. he showed me a picture of an incredibly cute but incredibly AI generated kitten. I said "aw how cute but the photo looks fake"
In turn, husband made a joke to his coworker asking what AI kitten mill it came from and that was that.
a few days later, I asked if they got the kitten. It turns out it was a complete scam and they were out $300.
I feel a little bad that I wasn't more explicit in my warning. It looked so obviously fake because no kitten at that age would have a coat as floofy as it had. People are so removed from animal husbandry that they're unable to recognize what real kittens actually look like.
It's a shame that most people are so removed from the production of many things that are in their lives. How food is grown and cooked, how clothes are made and so on.
