I'm bored of hearing about how it's always someone else's fault, that we are forever and inevitably beholden to hiring committees, granting agencies, or whoever else holds all the cards.

no fuckin shit extractive systems are designed to make escape seem impossible, where any local change is a net negative. yawn.

wake me up when you want to talk about building labor consciousness among academics and forcing the issue. our entire system of labor is designed to atomize us - we publish little papers with a few people at a time from little labs in little subdisciplines. if you talk to the worker down the hall in another discipline, their problems are the same.

when was the last time a faculty union went on strike to end publication quotas for tenure and promotion? the grad unions are leading the way, and even though y'all have way less tenuous working conditions I have never seen a radical faculty union. if you want to do it, you can, but you have to actually do it instead of explaining why you can't.
