Of course they are allowed to, and have, expressed their opinion. They are free to do so, which has been seen.
Other people are also free to express their opinions, as well. Your freedom of expression means others have a freedom to their expression as well.
How does the saying go? The freedom of speech is not the freedom of consequence?
I don't believe most people are too out of hand with the reaction. maybe there's a lot I'm missing, though. If you look up to someone, are a frequent listener/reader/watcher, and even make an account on said person's instance to make a community with other fans. Then the person who created that community tells you that the community is terrible. Of course the community is going to be upset by that. Without that community, there is no NAS. The community made Adam, just as much as Adam made the community.
Anyway I do understand wanting to separate your name from Fedi entirely. There was likely a better way to do so without alienating fans.
