I'd be down for that. I'm not usually in a rush, and I just want to get stuff done, maybe talk with the cashier.
Not just for myself, I get how isolating it is to have people 50cm from you who barely acknowledge your existence.
I find it's a much more pleasant shopping experience to interact with a human rather than just have one stand there like a security guard.
That said, I do use self-checkouts if I am time-poor or it's one or two things; a good mix would be nice
