My strong conviction that there's a spectrum of how well pure markets work from "very badly" (real estate, health care, transport infrastructure) through to "usually better than all alternatives" (food) is informed directly by growing up on communes, experiencing the "alternative" and seeing it sometimes succeed, sometimes fail.
