Conclusions based on facts and logic is great. You can perform high integrity science yourself.
Physics can be proven out your self.
Chemistry is a little harder, but you can do some of that yourself.
Same with astronomy.
Math and geometry proofs are more or less self evident.
Not being able to trust the establishment only really limits you in terms for stuff that you can't personally experience... I think a very small portion of that is practically relevant.
