I would say that accepting false things as true can also help you. There's apparently a lot of this in aborigine tribes, with weird spiritual beliefs being intertwined with stuff about which berries you can eat or which animals you should be afraid of.
I don't see why falsehood must be harmful, and truth must be beneficial. Maybe we have different dictionaries.
Things like irrational levels of out-group demonisation and things that while true are presently shunned and will result in negative consequences from your community for believing in, are obvious counterexamples.
