Question, what does a stranger mean by "Get over yourself"?

"get over"? like an ego? I dont have one. I hate myself so much I wanna kill myself but, I'm such a coward I don't want the pain so I dont off myself.
How do old folk (referred to his age as very much an adult) get to be like them?
I had offered them help.
They ignored me.
I wish i understood why an old fart grows to those extremes in a brief interaction.
