#PennedPossibilities 153 — As an author what role do dreams / nightmares play in your writing?
Hypnagogia dreams and ideas play a big role in two ways. First, they often point out a solution to a problem I have. Often just a snatch of dialog that provides the proper transition.
Second, some of my best creepy and weird scenes come from bits of dreams. They are more novel and interesting than the things I think up when awake.
I recently had a dream about a girl with a Kudan (A human-headed cow that makes ill-omened prophecies - "The Kudan never lies" is a Japanese proverb. In my WIP it forms the core of a weird scene but more importantly, it foreshadows what will happen in vol. 2 ?and? 3. Details are spoilers though.
