I got sued by a client once in small claims (so the trial was informal). The judge listen to my former client, and then turned to me and was like... can you explain what happened (in the tone of voice that implied she knew I could). I did. The judge then looked at the client and just repeated what I said pretty much verbatim and than entered judgment in my favor on my cross-complaint for unpaid fees.
