This anti-intellectual, authoritarian trendencies are not only at work in American culture. Although I doubt this is following an international master plan, I am prepared for collaboration.
Interestingly, the western democracies seem more susceptible to this than the newer ones in Asia. At least at first.
The real challenge will be armed clerical fascism. Something like this can develop like Russia.
