My Twitter account has almost certainly been throttled the last few years, stuck on 15K followers and posts get like 500-1000 impressions. Freedom of speech, but not of reach.
Have almost 5K followers here, and think before too long, think I will have more on nostr than Twitter.
I remember saying when I got to 50 nostr followers I would post more here than there, and I haven’t quite lived up to that.
Think it’s because on nostr I usually have to create my own posts from scratch, so to speak, but on Twitter the algo feeds me so much provocative content, I’m constantly QT’ing and responding.
Of course being prompted to respond by an algo is a kind of slavery. Yes, you can respond creatively, but you are still being prompted constantly like you’re some kind of machine. And you’re paying to work on Elon’s farm and building his network.
And yet while knowing that, it’s hard to turn down the material to work with and the network effect, however diminished.
Here are a few examples that prompted a response.
Not saying nostr should imitate Twitter, probably needs to be its own thing. But it’s obvious why Twitter is often compelling for a shitposter like myself in a way that nostr often isn’t.
Not offering a solution, either, just making an observation. Maybe there is no *solution* and nostr is perfectly fine in its own way and will develop as it should just via posters and developers following their own incentives.
