Yes. The GFC hit me very hard because of extremely bad timing.
I was already on a short-to-medium contract in Qatar when the collapse was acknowledged by Hank Paulson during October/November 2008, which led to the announcement of TARP. I watched it unfold on English language news broadcast by Russia's RT and China's CGTN, in my hotel room, as I ate my evening meals.
By the time my contract came to a natural end (in early 2009) the Western Banks and world economy was already tanking. So when it came to me looking for my next contract in 2009 and 2010, there was literally nothing available. Inevitably, the oil price also tanked, which resulted in the cancellation of many projects. And that's where my specialty was ... in the Oil & Gas Industry.
To make matters worse, during 2009 and 2010 all the Employment Agencies I once used to find me work either went bust, or they were forced to retrench and/or downsize.
