We have a lot of high end manufacturing tied up in Taiwan. A war would be devastating. The best we can hope for is a peaceful transfer of power. Our best hope was economic leverage through the TPP, and that failed to coalesce. This is definitely not worth it.
I suspect this is one motivation for the CHIPS act. We NEED to have our own manufacturing of high end electronics for national security reasons.
