I don't know much about this so I did a little Googling
In a lot of places the meters still use 2G (900 & 1800Mhz). Besides directly listening, 2G can be fooled into using a hackers cell tower and then they can monitor your data and a lot of others
The other thing I learned was that expensive smart appliances report their power use to the meters using Zigbee which can be not secure
So they can know what equipment in your house you use and how much. I guess also what house to rob.
