Can someone tell me why it would be better to keep your tent inside your backpack while hiking rather than strapping it to the top? I bought backpacks for my son and me which are big enough to allow us to carry the tent inside the pack (and I fully intend to do so) but my son wants to strap his to the top or bottom. I don’t care what he does with his stuff unless it’s going to make life difficult for him so if there is a compelling reason to keep the tent inside the pack, I’m all ears!
