Last I'll add, I can understand not feeling thrilled with a new word. I was initially annoyed by the word cis-- but it was really because at the ripe old age of 20-something someone had to explain it to me and it made me feel out of the loop and ignorant.
So, maybe that's what's chaffing you?
I realized, though, it wasn't exactly entirely my fault. It's not like they even explained what "trans" meant in health class (which would have been very helpful, I resented being left ignorant)
