Deflation is the natural state in a free society that is allowed to innovate.
Imagine where we would be if we had invented computers, the internet, Bitcoin, and AI in a nation with no income tax, still on the gold standard, no Fed, and 10% the size of government.
Also the deflationary forces of steel and steam drastically reduced overseas shipping costs by 65% over that gold standard period, massively offsetting the inhibitory effects of tariffs on the US economy.
That was a physical, real world technological revolution that directly improved trade efficiency of real world goods. AI can cause deflation in services, which may temper prices on goods to a degree, but not to the extent of the pre-1913 shipping revolution.
