Just for context, goalkeeping is a bit like basketball - height is a massive advantage.
Football goals are 8' high and 8 yards (24') wide. I can't reach the cross bar from standing. It used to take two of us to hang the nets, me with my mate L sitting on my shoulders.
6' is not an unusual height for a man (in fact, I think with better nutrition, the average male height among 20 to 40 year olds in England is currently about 5'11"). It's a very unusual height in women. A fairly crap 6' goalie will have an advantage over, say, a 5'8" very athletic, very talented goalie.
He will also be able to kick the ball a lot further - watch men's versus women's top flight football. Even at international level, when a woman takes a goal kick it usually lands in her own half. A man will get it comfortably into the opposition half.
