As part of the START treaty with the Soviet Union, the US committed to destroying 365 B-52 bombers. They were flown to Arizona and cut up with a 13,000 pound guillotine, then left in place for several months so that the Russians could verify via satellite that they had been truly destroyed before being sold for scrap.
