Oh, I'm sure that some caddy developer uses it at work, and they have a shitty program that depends upon it not returning 500 in an error case and so refuses to allow the default to change because it'd require them to have the opposite example of your follow up.
So often shitty behavior in [OSS] programs is because of companies refusing to fix their own shit to be standard compliant.
