There are always trade offs with things like that. Weight, fuel, range, cost etc. The cruising altitude is 31,000’ so that leaves a lot of time to find a good place to land and the back up safety features including the whole airframe parachute system add a lot of options in an emergency. I wouldn’t want to fly a single engine over the Pacific Ocean but with the glide range I’d be completely comfortable over most of North America.
Fun fact: the interstate highway system was designed with straight level sections at regular intervals without overhead obstructions to give commercial and military jets emergency landing options.
