By standardizing the signaling data exchange users on different clients would be able to join the same room or call without having to switch clients. Right now if I spun up a fork of Nostr Nests and someone on CornyChat sees my liveevent then they'd have to leave for my site to join instead of being able to use the features they are used to within CornyChat.
If clients supported NIP-100 I also wouldn't have to worry that expressing my views on Furries is going to get me banned from CornyChat or Nostr Nests. I could spin up my own relay to process the signaling without relying on anyone saying that I can't express my love the way I want 🤣 Sure I can do that now by just forking CC/NN but then I lose the network effect of my followers being able to easily join within their preferred app.
Clients worried about reliability of random relays can still give preference to their own signaling relay that is optimized for their use and identify those rooms differently in their UI than rooms from the wider ecosystem. NIP-100 just adds a more cohesive ecosystem to clients that adopt it in my opinion.
