I do agree that most people don’t want to dig into the differences. They believe they do not needed to know the difference just cause they live in a first world country and the government will always protect and support them as long as they are law obedient citizens.
The distinction between a platform and a protocol in context of social media is actually not that important for an end user - you can just say “use Damus as an app that allows censorship resistant SM” or something even more “normie-friendly”. The key here is for them to save their private key and understand that no one will be able to recover it for them if Damus closes down.
In regards to Bitcoin vs Crypto, it is imperative that people understand the difference. If they don’t want to, it means they don’t need Bitcoin *yet*. And it’s fine. But if we start generalizing for the sake of simplicity, we risk erasing the line between good and evil, and masses will never learn, new devs to come will degrade to become shitcoiners and we will be doomed to be stuck with a new iteration of a traditional financial system instead of having open and permissionless sound money.
