What did we learn from the Alby (npub1get…0nfm) outage? If you’re using AlbyHub and self hosting your Lightning wallet, you can still lose access to your funds. You don’t lose your funds, so that’s a plus. But, you can lose the ability to access your funds. I recommend always having a coupe of avenues available for accessing your lightning sats. Here’s my recommendation:
1.) if you’re running a node, spin up an instance of btcpayserver (npub155m…dcvg) This provides you with a truly self sovereign way of handling your lightning wallet.
2.) Coinos (npub1h2q…w8ch) as a backup, but a custodial solution
3.) Wallet of Satoshi (npub1hcw…h9rq) also a custodial, but worth holding on to you can get it.
While Alby (npub1get…0nfm) is cool, easy, and I’ll continue to use it. Just remember 2=1, 1=0, and 3>2. 🤙🏻
