However I'm not sure this is important? I never had any problems with this on XMPP either. Either way they didn't had to invent their own incompatible thing for that, which is much worse (for example sending an encrypted message to Matrix users will never be possible, everything other then plain text messages is not compatible). They should have just made a better XMPP client with their millions of funding.
