We have such things in Michigan as well. There have been reports of big cats/panthers in the deep woods from time to time, but about 12 years ago, the local constabulary in Escanaba had to put down a 145-lb lobo that wandered into town. The Upper Peninsula is full of large prey like elk, and there are a couple of buffalo herds as well. The wolves, protected by the gummint idiots, have fed at will, and some of them have gotten pretty damn big, and brave.
