I could buy a house right now for around 100K well within commute distance to STL metro. I see a lot of 20's and 30 yo's buying 4-5 bdrm 3 bath houses and complaining about how much it costs. Our first house was a one bedroom one bath. Our second was a 2 bedroom one bath. Capitalism has grossly warped what young people think of as satisfactory housing. And 13% interest vs 5% is a massive difference in house payment.
