"Sorting hat" is actually a commonly misheard spelling of "swording hat"
Snape is one of those people who thinks it's supposed to be a "sorting hat" so he messed up his entire life accidentally letting it put him in Slytherin like it knew what it was doing
Slytherin scored a really good wizard that day though
