I thought that the Iraq War followed by the global financial crisis just had to be enough for someone to sit up and take notice. There would finally be inquiries, commissions, something would be done.

Socialized medicine would finally get a chance to be discussed: the US could compare itself with other healthcare systems that worked and bring in the "single payer" that both parties were talking about in the 1980s.
