I have, over time, read most of the seminal books of what makes knowledge workers tick (De Marco, Daniel Pink, etc) and unobtrusively probed management types for whether they read it (with some subversive intentions, admitted). But it turns out, nobody (!) has and most don't have a theory of management beyond "it's just common sense".
