To my knowledge, ephemeral events aren't used much and it could make things more lively on nostr if we used them to signal presence and other activity.

1. Signal where you are in your feed. Alice is looking at nevent... By default, this would have to be off to not put off people that assumed more privacy when browsing nostr but it would allow you to follow your friends as they browse nostr. Clients could invite users to switch this on when they do follow others.
2. Signal when somebody is replying. If you start authoring a reply to something, it's more likely you don't mind people knowing you read it. By default, the client could signal "Bob is writing a reply ...". Clients could show "Your follows Carol and Dave and 5 others are typing ..."
3. Signal what somebody is writing in real time. This should probably never be on by default but I see great benefit in it. People could use that feature to tease others but it would also help with keeping people around for faster conversations. Others could even draft their replies to such drafts in real time if we add some UUID to drafts. I think this could be quite wild and novel. People might use it for ephemeral top posts, too - and get zapped for something that disappears seconds later.
