How does this relate to Twitter?
Unfortunately, to get there I'll start by looking at Reddit. Because the conditioning system there isn't automated, it's done by people. And in this case, not by users voting, but by compromised subreddit moderators.
An example is r/Conspiracy, which was infiltrated by MAGA activists some years ago and became all MAGA all the time.
