Years ago I worked in the IPTV company. We built software for those small boxes which you would connect to your TV before TVs became "smart".
We were updating those boxes remotely over Internet. And our biggest fear was that we will brick them.
So we had tests, but also a rollout strategy where update would go first into a central region, which is well connected and well-covered by the offices, but not as densely populated.
