From reading up on carbon taxes from another source, the negatives seem to outweigh any benefits.
From my perspective, carbon taxes simply allow the exploitation of fossil fuels to continue, and even expand.
Which is probably why emissions keep rising every year.
If the true goal is cut emissions drastically, which is what is needed, carbon taxes seem to have little effect.
Bribing citizens that is a good/workable solution with rebate payments of just allowing business as usual to continue.
