To paraphrase Hannah Arendt, wherever people desire simple solutions to complex problems, totalitarianism will always be a threat.
The desire for radical simplification btw is always what led to the post-apocalypse in the books I studied (the ones that let readers in on how it happened anyway).
I tend to associate black-and-white thinking with fascism, for that reason. I'm very wary of with-us-or-against-us rhetoric, especially these days.
