Also known as "Kemper Werth" (also as Schänzchen) this promontory in the Rhine at the mouth of the River Sieg played an important part in the wartime news flows and propaganda during the military campaigns.
The Protestant island you see on the image had a fort and was situated among territories of the Catholic League. It's name was: Pfaffenmütz (priest's cap).
