For a couple of days now I've been wanting to write about Venezuela, because there are things I need to say, but be advised I'm not a Venezuela expert and all I'll say are generalities.
First off, and accepting I have a soft spot in my heart for Chavez (I love his "Maldito seas Estado de Israel" speech), Chavez was, by any serious measure or analysis, not a "socialist" but a left wing populist that sometimes repeated revolutionary slogans or quotes, sometimes with the wrong context.
