At the time, it felt like an important challenge to stigma and deficit models. But I don’t think I would use it again, because it comes with too many unintended side effects, including the ones you’ve described here, and also setting people up for a feeling of personal failure if their capacity changes in ways that feel less ‘superpower’. It’s a risky metaphor for a lot of reasons.
