how did you do "I have switched it off in the UI." , exactly?
I have not looked at the code exactly, but generally speaking if you switch it off properly, then it doesn't add the hooks. I would have to examine the code to be sure, but that's the usual case. But there is more than one way to "switch it off", and you may be using the other one.
