I grew up during Reagan and the AIDS crisis when homophobic and transphobic slurs were the norm. People called us freaks and openly wished violence and death on us.
"The good Christians" and "the good liberals" pretty much acted and sounded the same way as far as I saw.
Even as a little girl, I could connect the dots between how queer people like me were treated, even with whiteness ostensibly on our side, with how Black people and immigrants and others were treated by the same people.
