For me it's not so much a case of knowing when the photos say something - they're always informed by the original idea so if I'm doing it right they should say something - but knowing when enough is enough.
Also, knowing when the balance of the images is right is tricky - too much of one style makes the project unbalanced, so careful curation is crucial.
