I think a lot of people see Trump as the devil they know. A crook but a known quantity. Whereas the political class has always been seen as hypocritical because the nature of politics is compromise and at times corruption to achieve goals.
What they don't understand is that most politicians corrupt themselves with the intention of promoting the common good. However Trump like Nero would watch the world burn just for his own self engradizement. He is existentially dangerous.
