Have you tried Extreme Crochet? With this method you super size things by using thicker yarn and bigger hook sizes. This means you can use exactly the same pattern to make much bigger versions simply by scaling it all up.
A good example is my (free) Tree Thangs pattern. It's written for the normal sized Thangs which are about 30 cm using DK yarn and a 4 mm hook. To get the much larger Tree Thang, I used 5 skeins of DK yarn at a time, with a 12cm hook. If I had wanted to make an even larger Tree Thang, I could have used multiple strands of a thicker weight yarn and an even bigger hook. With enough yarn and a hook large enough to handle it you could theoretically have a Thang the size of an actual tree 😊
If I ever get around to making my Troll, for which the giant crochet foot that keeps Toby away from wires was originally made as a concept piece, I reckon he'll probably be about 5-6 feet tall!
